探路者行動 Operation: Pathfinder
「探路者」是一艘在1997年攜帶探測車登陸火星，且建立基地的美國太空船，那次探測任務是繼1970年「維京號」任務之後，第一次有人類探測器成功降落到火星地表。按照設計，「探路者」的壽命僅有一個月左右，但它與它所乘載的登陸車卻在火星惡劣的環境下整整堅持了三個月，採集大量關於火星大氣、地質學、岩石學的數據。
In 1997, a NASA spaceship “Pathfinder” with its rover landed on Planet Mars and built a base. This was the first successful space probe to land on the Martian surface following the “Viking Program” of 1970. Although the “Pathfinder” mission was programmed to last for a month, it eventually lasted for three months, collecting a great deal of atmospheric, geological and petrologic data from Mars.
而過去四年我們之中每個獨立的個體就像是探路者，在太空中漫遊，目標是探測一切發展的可能性，而遭遇儀器故障等問題，就像我們四年中所遇到的意外、阻礙，也描述我們以不斷的摸索，來找尋屬於自己的路徑，同時也期許充滿可能性的未來。
During the past four years, each of us worked like an individual “pathfinder.” We wandered in the space and explored every possibility. The difficulties we have experienced are like the malfunctions encountered by the spaceship. We continued to explore in order to find our own path and we wished ourselves full of possibilities.
當目標達成（畢業）後，大家各自分道揚鑣，有些人或許會結束他們的任務-也就是離開在藝術中的摸索，去開啟一段新的旅程；有些人則持續進行他們初始的目的，無論如何，探路是一段我們在大學四年所共同的歷程，一段我們ㄧ同進行的任務。
Once the mission is completed (i.e. we have graduated), each of us will go different directions. Some of us will no longer carry on the mission of creating art and start a new journey instead. Some of us will still work towards our original goals (about arts). Whatever the new path may be, we did share the journey and “find some path” during the past four years.
用「行動」作為命名，行動通常是在計畫之後，字義中帶有對於未來的指涉性，未發生但已準備周全，僅欠缺最後的執行層面；相較於「計畫」一詞，「行動」一詞更帶有動作意味，也更具象，且確實會執行。此外，這項展出以「行動」命名，「行動」一詞也指大學生涯四年藝術創作的總結，所以這個「行動」除指向未來，也涵攝過去。總之，「探路者行動」即能同時對於過去及未來帶有雙重指向，針對過去可以做出結論、命名甚至是宣告；而對於未來我們以探路者之姿，昂首闊步的向未知邁進。
Another word for the exhibition title is “operation.” It is because “operation” usually takes place after some “project” or “plan” is formed, thus referring more clearly to the future. “Operation” means that preparation is ready and only an action is needed. Compared with “project” or “plan” mentioned earlier, the word “operation” does have a more active connotation and involves execution of things. Besides, the word “operation” also means a sum-up of our four years’ art creation. Therefore the word “operation” refers both to the future and to the past. To summarize, “Operation: Pathfinder” is a title for both the past and the future; for the past, the title concludes, names and declares what we have done; and as for the future, the title encourages us to move forward bravely like the spaceship “Pathfinder”.
